LG PuriCare Water Purifier WD516AN Reviews
As much as most of us are concerned, water purifiers are an essential household appliance in every Malaysian home. So, you may have been recently targeted by many online ads regarding water purifiers, and there’s just so many brands out there that you do not know which one to go for.
I recently picked up the LG PuriCare Water Purifier WD516AN review, which in fact, I have been using for about three months. Here’s what I have to say about it.
Disclaimer
This review is not sponsored by LG PuriCare Malaysia in any way. I personally paid for this device and I pay them every month for the monthly subscription service. By all means, I am not a water expert, so I’m not going to comment on how good this water is going to treat your body, but I can tell you that it is safe for consumption based on its filtration process.
First Impressions and Installation
When I first received the LG Puricare WD 516AN, I didn’t expect this water purifier to have such a big footprint. If you look at it right now, I’ve basically placed this water purifier in a vertical position, which actually measures 41 centimeters wide. But if you were to put it in a horizontal position, it will measure about 17 centimeters. So, you got to make sure that you have that kind of space on your pantry area.
Tankless Water Purifier
Being a tankless water purifier means that it doesn’t have any tanks stored within its body, which means you’re getting water directly from the tap source. This is why you’re getting fresh water every time when you dispense water from the outlet.
The installation is done by LG PuriCare Malaysia installer, which is very professional. I really love how they do the installation; there’s basically no hassle. When you ask them to come over, they just ask you what your setup is like and how you would like to set it up. They get it all set up for you, so no hassle required. That’s the thing I really love about them.
Unique Features
Unlike other water purifiers in the market, the LG Puricare WD516AN is the only water purifier that comes with a rotating tap. You can basically rotate it 180 degrees, which is super convenient depending on how you want to place your water purifier, whether it is in a vertical mode or horizontal mode. You can simply rotate the tap, and even the tray itself is rotatable to 180 degrees. You can dispense water by just rotating the tap really, really simply.
You might be wondering why LG designed such a bulky form for the water outlet instead of just putting one outlet on the top. That’s because it has an auto-leveling feature that prevents spills. When you enable that feature and press the water dispense button, it levels the tap to the height of your cup, which is really good and prevents spills. After it’s done, it simply goes back up. This bulk is basically just to store the entire cap and outlet. It’s actually really, really cool.
180 Degree Rotating Tap Convenience
The rotating tap is able to support a water tumbler height of up to 23 centimeters. This is a 650 milliliter tumbler with a 23 centimeter height. If I place it right under the tap and press the dispense button, it automatically adjusts and works just fine.
The height of this rotating tap makes a lot of sense for those who use small water tumblers and glasses for drinking water. But if you’re a person like me that drinks a lot of water and uses an odd-sized water bottle like this two-liter water bottle, you’re going to have problems using this water purifier. Let me tell you why.
When I refill this water bottle, it will not fit this rotating tap properly unless you place this water purifier next to the sink and put the water bottle right here. Then, you probably have enough space for refilling water at a comfortable position.
Features and Button Layout
Now, let’s get to my favourite part of the review, which is the features of this water purifier. We have a really nice button layout right here. You can choose to dispense hot water up to 85 degrees Celsius. I usually drink my water at 40 degrees Celsius because that is a really comfortable temperature that I enjoy a lot. You can dispense water volume up to one litre, and after one litre, it will automatically stop dispensing.
Continuous Dispensing Feature
Room temperature is the ambient water button, and you can continuously dispense water up to three minutes. After three minutes, it will stop dispensing. This continuous dispensing feature will not work with the hot and cold water feature. If you want to dispense refrigerated cold water, you just need to press the cold button, and you can switch between three levels as well. You also get a UV Nano button right here, which is very useful if you want to sterilize your water before drinking.
Filter Change Alert
The dispense button, even though it’s in blue color, actually means something. It means the filter and everything is good to go. Whenever it requires a filter change, it will turn into a red color button, meaning you need to replace the filters.
There are two additional buttons on the top: one is the outlet sterilize button, and the other one is the internal sterilize. You don’t really need to press these buttons because the water purifier automatically sterilizes the internals pipe every week and you just have to manually do outlet sterilize monthly. But if you like to do it on your own, you just need to hold these buttons for three seconds, and it will perform their respective jobs.
Power Efficiency Saving
One of the concerns you may have when owning this water purifier is power consumption. I’m happy to report that it is an extremely power-efficient appliance. In idle mode, our power meter reports a power consumption of 5.5 to 6 watts, which is incredible compared to a hot water pot that needs to constantly maintain 100 to 200 watts to keep the water warm.
If we dispense hot water, the power consumption goes up to 2000 watts, which is reasonable compared to a boiling water kettle. After it’s done, it instantly goes back to seven and then back to its usual six watts power consumption. For cold water, it only uses about 28.5 watts based on our power meter, which is an incredible power consumption for this water purifier.
LG Outright Vs Rental Plans
This water purifier is available in outright purchase and rental plans. When I got it, it cost 3200 Ringgit, down from its usual 5600 Ringgit price tag. It comes with a one-year warranty and two years of free filter subscription. You can even do zero percent installment with your credit card for up to 36 months, which is great if you do not want to fork out that much upfront cash.
I went for the rental plan, paying 60 Ringgit per month over seven years, which ultimately comes to a total commitment of 5040 Ringgit. It might sound more expensive than the outright purchase plan, but there are several benefits over the outright purchase plan.
First, the water purifier will be totally serviced by LG Puricare Malaysia for free if there are any manufacturing defects or change of pipes during the period, essentially giving you seven years of warranty. Second, there’s no additional charge for filter replacements during this rental period, which usually costs 320 Ringgit per year after the outright purchase free filter subscription is over. Third, LG PuriCare Malaysia offers a free relocation service if you decide to relocate your home. Finally, the water purifier is owned by you after seven years, and you do not need to return it to LG Malaysia after the rental period.
If you do the math on the outright and rental purchase plans, including the filter subscription for seven years, the rental plan ultimately comes up to just an additional 240 Ringgit. You basically get a way longer warranty period, which is totally unrivaled compared to other water purifiers in the market.
Conclusion
Overall, I am very satisfied with the LG Puricare Water Purifier WD516AN after using it for three months. It is a really great all-in-one water purifier that offers all the essentials that other water purifiers in the market of the same price range do not offer. That’s pretty much for my review today. Thank you very much for reading.
